Let’s not write “CONTENT GOES HERE” all over a design 🙂
Many times as a designer starts the creative process we need have content / text / copywriting completed but more often than not the client needs time to develop the final written content to include in a design piece. As a result designers often need “filler text” to start the layout process. Rather than writing out 100’s of times “CONTENT GOES HERE” Lorem Ipsum gives us a way to fill up the design sections with text that looks real but doesn’t mean anything.
Lorem Ipsum is a placeholder text commonly used in the design and typesetting industry. It’s a dummy text that is used to demonstrate the visual effects of different typefaces and layouts, and serves as a placeholder for the final copy.
Lorem Ipsum is derived from Latin. The text is a scrambled version of a passage from a Latin work by the classical author and philosopher Cicero. The words have been rearranged to create a text that resembles Latin, but has no meaning. The use of Lorem Ipsum as placeholder text has become a common practice in the design and typesetting industry, and it is widely recognized as a standard placeholder text.
It’s used in many design applications including but not limited to:
- Printing and typesetting industry
- Web design and development
- Graphic design and layout
- Advertising and marketing materials
- Office documents and templates
- Books and magazines
- User interfaces and wireframes.
It has become many designers best friend. It allows us to quickly generate a certain number of lines, bullets, paragraphs, or headlines to get a headstart on those layouts for our amazing clients while they figure out what they are truly going to say with their next piece of collateral 🙂
